Save Our Waterways

When can we start?

As soon as you like! The idea is that you and your family visit your local waterway and take pictures that fit into one or more of the following categories.

• Wildlife - pictures of wildlife that depend on the waterways
• Heritage - pictures of waterway structures that highlight our historic heritage
• Recreation - pictures of all forms of recreation on the waterways
• Urban renewal - pictures showing city & town waterside regeneration
• Environment - pictures that highlight environmental issues, positive & negative

You can begin taking pictures straight away but there is no rush as the competition will remain open until the Autumn so you have all Spring and Summer to take and choose your best pictures. You can enter one photograph in as many categories as you like. Within each category, there will be prizes for the following divisions:

• Adult (non-professional)
• Under 12
• Teenage (13-19)
• Group (Club, Society, Pub etc.)
• School

How do I enter?

You can enter the competiton by sending your own or your groups photographs to your Flickr account, to us directly as an e-mail with attachments, or by post. Before you submit an entry, please read the terms and conditions here

By Flickr

To enter using Flickr, you will need to use your existing Flickr account, or set an account up for yourself. Once you have established your Flickr account, use the entry form below to tell us that you are entering photographs and - most importantly - your Flickr ID, so we can invite you to the Save Our Waterways Flickr group. Once you have received your invitation in Flickr, you will be able to submit up to five photographs. Don’t forget to tag them with the prize category they are entered for - Wildlife, Heritage, Recreation, Urban Renewal, or Environment.

You will be completely and fully responsible for the conduct of this account according to Flickr’s terms and conditions of use.

Send your photos with name, address (must include postcode) and phone or email contact plus the photo category and prize division written on the back. An entry form will be availbable here in the next few days.

You mention prizes for schools and groups, how will that work?

We are particularly interested in getting schools involved. There may be opportunities to tie the competition into studies concerned with environmental and heritage issues. Similarly, we believe that some organisations with an interest in waterways might see the competition as a way to raise awareness of their activities in the local community.If any school or group in your community wants to discuss this in more detail please do not hesitate to contact us either by email to campaign@saveourwaterways.org or call 01283 791584.
